The Instinct of First Notice
4 Apr 2026
The people in the room, the idea working underneath the conversation, or the single detail that refuses to add up. Attention is never neutral, and yours has already landed somewhere before you chose.
The people
You enter and read the faces before the slide. A sound idea delivered into a soured room is not yet a sound idea. You are frequently right, and you are occasionally early.
Do not skip the slide. The people are the first notice, not the only one.
The idea
You hear the claim working underneath the chatter. Details can wait until the shape is legible. You lose patience with process that does not serve the thesis.
The Shadow Tax is an elegant shape that does not survive contact with the numbers. Ask one detail-minded person what would break it.
The detail
You see the figure that does not reconcile, the name spelled two ways, the step everyone agreed to skip. Groups need you, and groups tire of you, frequently within the same week.
Bring the detail with a repair attached, not merely a catch. A catch with no next maneuver sounds like a veto.
